Welcome to Southport Model Aero Club's web site. On this site
you will find plenty of information about the club such as where and when we
fly, what kinds of model aircraft are flown by members, where we meet, what
shows we are involved in, how to get in touch and how much it costs to join us.
Southport Model Aero Club (SMAC) consists of a small group of enthusiasts of all
age groups, who fly a wide variety of radio-controlled model aircraft (mostly
fixed-wing). These range from Almost Ready To Fly (ARTF/ARF) trainers, to
full scale scratch-built models. The atmosphere at the club is friendly and
relaxed (but we are serious about safety!).
We have been in existence in our current configuration since 1975 and are
permitted to fly on Sefton's (Merseyside) coastline north of Liverpool
at Ainsdale. Flying on the
beach is
possible all year round, although restrictions apply during winter and on days
with very high tides. SMAC also has a flying site at Leisure Lakes near Southport. In addition
to outdoor flying, indoor flying sessions take place at Sutton
Leisure Centre and Formby High School during the winter.
We are able to offer a comprehensive free training scheme for novices and have
registered examiners who can take candidates for their 'A' and 'B' Certificates.
We are affiliated to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA No. 233). The
BMFA is the governing body for model flying in the United Kingdom.
Enjoy your visit to our web site!
